Trade War: US to impose import tariffs on Canada, Mexico & the EU; EU & Canada vow to retaliate

Washington/Paris/Ottawa: US President Donald Trump has decided to impose trade tariffs on its allies, Canada and Mexico as well, along with the European Union. On Thursday, the US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced imposition of taxes on the imports of steel and aluminium from Canada and Mexico along with the European Union. There have been sharp retorts from Canada and the European Union on this decision by Trump. Canada has termed this announcement as an insult to the long-standing security partnership between the two countries whereas, the European Union has termed the announcement as ‘trade protectionism’.

Netherlands accuses Russia of shooting down Malaysian passenger plane MH-17, over Ukraine

New York: 298 people had died in the crash of a Malaysian Airliner in Ukraine in 2014. Netherlands has accused that this was not an accident but Russia had shot down the passenger airliner. The Netherlands Foreign Minister criticised Russia in vitriolic words in the United Nations Security Council and demanded that Russia should accept the responsibility of the attack. The United States has also supported this demand and has warned Russia that it will stand firmly behind Netherlands on this issue.

The decision of starting a trade war with Europe lies with the United States, warns French Finance Minister

Paris: ‘The fresh taxes imposed by the United States on the import of Steel and Aluminium from Europe are totally unjust and dangerous for global development. The decision about initiating a trade war with Europe, which is the closest and largest trade partner of the United States, lies entirely with the United States. The United States agencies will alone be responsible for this,’ were the stern words used by the French Finance Minister to threaten the United States of a trade war. The Trump administration in the United States has indicated imposition of new taxes on imports from Europe and an announcement to that effect is expected on Thursday evening.

Russia gives Israel go-ahead to attack Iranian locations in Syria, claims Middle Eastern media

London: Russia has given a green light to Israel for its attacks on the locations of Iran and allied organizations in Syria. The Middle Eastern media have carried a report that this decision was taken during the meeting of the Russian and Israeli Defence Ministers. However, Russia and Israel have refused to comment over the subject. Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman visited Russia on Thursday and met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu.

US to deploy ‘THAAD’ missile defense system in Germany to respond to Russia and Iran’s threat

Washington/ Berlin: The US has indicated to deploy the ‘THAAD’ missile defense system in Europe to give an equivalent response to advanced long-range and medium-range missile systems of Russia and Iran. Its officials and analysts have reported about their initial ongoing discussion with the German military officials regarding the system. ‘THAAD’, an advanced missile system created by Lockheed Martin, is also known to be the most efficient anti-missile system bearing the capability to defend against short and medium-range ballistic missiles.

Russia wants united and prosperous Europe, says Russian President Vladimir Putin

Moscow: ‘Russia is not interested in dividing Europe. Instead Russian wants a united and prosperous Europe. Austria and the other European countries must understand this,’ said Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Russian President is on his Austria visit since Tuesday and before that President Putin has given this ‘message’ to the members of the European Union. Russia had annexed the Ukrainian territory of Crimea dislodging it from Ukraine. After this, most of the countries in Europe were looking at Russia as a threat to their security.

NATO holds large-scale war exercises in Poland and Baltic regions; Israeli army also participates for the first time

Warsaw: At a time when the tension between the United States and Russia is escalating by the day, large scale war exercises have been initiated by NATO near the western Russian border. These exercises with participation from militaries of 19 countries, will continue for two weeks. The military of Israel, which is a partner country of NATO, will be participating in these exercises for the first time. Russia has reacted to this, saying that the war exercises near its border will lead to instability in Eastern Europe.

Attack on the US army in Syria will be a blunder – US’ warning to the threat by Syrian President

Washington/Damascus: ‘The United States military will have to leave Syria, one way or the other,’ Syrian President, Bashar Al-Assad issued this suggestive statement. The United States has taken note of this statement and has issued a stern warning in response. ‘It will be a huge blunder if any group in Syria decides to attack the military deployed there by the United States or its allies,’ warned US Director of Joint Staff, Kenneth McKenzie. The developments in Syria are speeding up and President Bashar Al-Assad has indicated considering a truce with the US-backed rebels.

There is an evil trio operating in the world. Iran and the terrorist organisations ‘Muslim Brotherhood’ with ‘Al Qaeda’ and ‘IS’ constitute the evil trio.” Prince Mohammed said that the Jewish people were entitled to their land clarifying his stand on the Israel issue. Turkey threatens to target France for co-operating Kurdish rebels in Syria

Ankara: Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag warned France saying, “Anyone who takes a stand to cooperate and help the terrorists opposed to Turkey, they all will be targeted by Turkey. We hope that a country like France will not take an irresponsible step like this.” French President Emmanuel Macron had a meeting with the Kurdish rebels in Syria and had a round of talks with them. While issuing the warning, Turkey alleged that these included some of the Kurdish organisations which have been labelled as terrorists by Turkey. Turkish President Erdogan has said that such a stand by France is an act of incitement against Turkey.

Turkey’s ambition is to spread its borders in Europe like the Ottoman Empire

Ankara: Turkey has threatened to target France with the accusation of supporting the Kurdish rebels. A few days ago, Turkey had also warned of attacking the United States soldiers stationed in Manbij, Syria. US-Saudi sign agreements worth $400 billion

 Washington:  Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman who is on a visit to the United States since last week has signed 46 agreements worth $400 billion. These include an agreement for $128 billion related to the Saudi’s defence sector. It is claimed that under this agreement the United States will supply fighter jets, helicopters, missiles and other arms systems. This information was revealed by a leading Saudi daily.

Washington: ‘If the international community failed to impose economic and political sanctions on Iran to stop its nuclear program, a war is inevitable between Saudi and Iran in the next 10 to 15 years’, warned Saudi’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Crown Prince Mohammed issued this warning while talking to a popular United States daily. Previously, during a meeting with the United States President Donald Trump, the Crown Prince had appealed by saying, ‘The United States should withdraw from the nuclear treaty with Iran. Because this nuclear treaty cannot stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.’

French military deployment in Syria will amount to invasion, warns Turkish Defence Minister

 Israel deploys 100 snipers along Gaza border

Jerusalem: The Israel army has deployed at least 100 snipers, i.e. soldiers with long range rifles, along the Gaza border. Washington: “If Russia craves for an arms race, then the United States is ever prepared for it. But Russia must keep in mind that in such a race, the United States will undoubtedly emerge a winner”, warned US President Donald Trump. This warning was issued to Russian President Putin during a telephonic conversation, as reported by a private American news channel. Vladimir Putin was re-elected as the President of Russia during the presidential elections last week.

Israel’s two F35 stealth fighter jets cross the Iran border and survey Iranian nuclear assets undetected, reports Kuwaiti newspaper
Kuwait City: A Kuwaiti newspaper has published a report of two F-35 stealth fighter jets from the Israeli fleet crossing the Iranian border and having surveyed an Iranian nuclear plant. The newspaper claimed that the Iranian radar systems were unable to detect the Israeli F-35 fighter jets. This news has added to the already-high tensions between the two countries.
