Darfur is a region stretched at the western periphery of Sudan in Africa and is approximately the size of France. Prior to 2003, Darfur was a shelter to around 6 million people. Sudan being the third largest country in Africa was once recognized by its ethnic diversity, more heterogeneous than any other region in Africa. This statement is proved from the fact that Darfur is populated by more than a 100 tribes. Darfur, meaning the abode of the Fur, has derived its name from a major ethnic group called Fur residing in this region.
Darfur is an undeveloped and remote region in Sudan wherein most of the natives are farmers while few are nomads (Arabs) and make a livelihood by selling livestock or moving camels and horses from place to place. Darfur has always been neglected and ignored by the government of Sudan in terms of various economic and political aspects. This has resulted in discontent among the Darfur residents.

China’s “Bo Xilai” Scandal – The Special, the Astonishing & the Peculiar – Part 3

One cannot deny the fact that Bo Xilai scandal, the silent support he received during that time, and the formation of a new political party were sequence of events that had started a new era in China.

Special
Things such as filing a suit against the member of a politburo in China, keeping that court proceeding active for a long period of time, and choosing a court that was several hundred kilometers away from the person’s jurisdiction proved to be detrimental to the image of the communist ruling party’s robust image. It was the influence of Xilai which was attributed to these actions. The world witnessed the level of difficulties Chinese Government faced while dragging a popular Chinese political leader to court

Xilai’s supporters were also claiming that the name of Xilai’s wife was also ‘put’ in the Heywood murder case. The political party had been cautious in declaring “Suspended Death” as a verdict after she was found guilty. However, they decided to watch her behaviour for some time before executing the capital punishment. No one was able to answer the question of why the Chinese Government was being so cautious about a corrupt Leader. The same government had mercilessly killed thousands of youngsters in Tiananmen Square earlier.
Astonishing
China became the second largest economy by even surpassing Japan. In spite of that the economic problems of China have not been resolved. The leaders of China need to admit it. The imbalance in China is increasing at a rapid rate. Many are accusing China of its opportunistic approaches. Leaders such as Bo Xilai oppose such opportunistic behaviour. They demand economic and social justice. They represent such well thought out Communist Party.
The foreign media is speculating that such differences of opinion against Xilai amongst the remaining members of the Communist Party are responsible for such cracks. Members of the politburo and also the past prominent members are supporters of Xilai. It is also said that Xilai has a huge influence on the defence services of China. Therefore, the President, the Prime Minister had to challenge the army in the interim time period. “Please do not be intellectually divided” was the message these leaders were constantly bombarding the army with. Therefore the Bo Xilai scandal proves to be one of the most important and prominent political incidents from the recent past in the world.
Peculiar
While the court hearing of Bo Xilai was in progress, an American daily had printed information about enormous foreign investment of the current Prime Minister, Wen Jiabao. There were some intense reactions from China. During this court hearing Chinese Government had kept a close vigil on its social networking sites.
In spite of that those who spoke in favor of Xilai were in very large numbers. It stood as a sore thumb in the eyes of Chinese Government. China does not have a tradition of such free expression of opinions. The Chinese political system still has not found an answer to questions such as how do we contain the power of social networks. They do not know what to do with democratic systems, such as social networking. Therefore, in spite of banning the use of Facebook and Twitter, Chinese people are widely using Weibo which has been provided by the Government. The “Bo Xilai Scandal” ensured that the Chinese citizens get used to expressing their opinions on political topics freely.

The news have just began to pour in about the victory of ‘Brexit Campaign’ in the United Kingdom which means UK will now no longer be part of the European Union. UK becomes sort of trendsetter in the EU as it becomes the first member nation to part ways from the powerful European Union after 43 years of being its member.
In the neck to neck held national referendum, 52% of the Britons voted to leave the EU. Though the markets have reacted critically to this result it marks the representation of the strength of the masses against the political and economic hegemony of the ruling class. It is how common masses are defining it.

China’s “Bo Xilai ” Scandal – The Special, the Astonishing & the Peculiar – Part 2

A severe reaction to Bo Xilai’s exit was made public by the traditional members and by the followers of Mao who were members of the ruling Communist Party of China. People began to criticize the treatment meted to Bo Xilai through various mediums of the Media. This became a huge cause of concern for the Communist Party which was united for over six decades.
The ruling party began to take steps to seek affirmation from Media, Military and other mechanisms that they were united and were with the ruling Communist Party and its thought processes. This pressurized the media that criticized them and thus, stopped the reactions on the Xilai scandal.
All of this things were attempts to ensure that no efforts are taken to back answer these criticism from the people who talked in favor of Bo Xilai. In spite of that the criticism kept pouring in hush tones. In the end, it was decided to take a firm legal action against Bo Xilai. In the month of July 2013, he was accused of bribery, misuse of political power and corruption. After this accusation, in the month of August 2013, the court hearing began. At that time, Xilai stated that he was wrongfully trapped in the corruption scandal and that he was forced to accept all the accusations under pressure. “The evidence to prove that I am guilty is insufficient. I felt that everything was happening in an official manner. However, I have been fooled” is what he said in the court of law.
The hearing went on for three full days after which Bo Xilai was declared guilty. At the same time, he was told that he could appeal to the higher authorities. It was because of the Bo Xilai scandal that the internal differences of opinion amongst the members of the ruling Communist Party came out in public.  It was clear around the same time that some members of the group felt that the country could be ruled under the guidance of the thoughts of founder Mao and his perspectives.
No court hearing conducted in China till then had gained this level of international visibility. The visibility of the Bo Xilai scandal prominently brought to the forefront a negative side of China. The image of China as a country making rapid progress on the strength of its economic power became questionable.

Till then the citizens of China would accept the verdict given by the ruling Communist Party. It meant the political party had immense control over the population of China. Therefore, even if there was opposition to the verdict, it could easily be suppressed. However, during the Bo Xilai scandal and even later, this picture changed.
In fact, while the court hearing was going on, Bo Xilai’s supporters expressed their displeasure. And even after the court hearing was completed, Bo Xilai was made the chief of a new political party. This was a very important development.
Since the Communist Party has a monopoly in China, a new political party was a concept almost nonexistent in China. With this background, in order to support a person who was thrown out of a political party and then the same person to become a chief of a new political party was a sign of danger to come. The ruling political party would find it very difficult to suppress this new party since it was formed on the thoughts and principles of the founder of free China.
to be continued…

China’s “Bo Xilia” Scandal – The Special, the Astonishing & the Peculiar – Part 1

Wan Zheng
In the beginning of November, a new political party was floated in China. The name of this party is “Zhi Xian Party”. In English it means “The Supremacy of Constitution”. The party has been established by a woman named Wan Zheng. She is a supporter of Bo Xilai who was shunned from the Communist Party of China which was in power then.
The background for the establishment of this party is the scandal of Bo Xilai which churned the political circles of China which was in power. Before we talk about the scandal, it is imperative to know who “Bo Xilai” was. In the ruling Communist Party of China during the decade of 1980 to 1990, a group of powerful political leaders was known as “Eight Elders.” Bo Xilai is the son of Bo Yibo.
Bo Xilai who became a part of a group “Red Guard” during his school days entered the Communist Party in the year 1980. After that he became a Vice President in the Dalian region. In the year 1993, he succeeded in becoming a mayor of the city. His position in the Communist Party and his influence on people began to grow as he became the governor of Liaoning. After that he became the Commerce Minister of China and then scaled the height by becoming the chief of the party in Chongqing. During this period, for some time he worked as a member of the Politburo of the Party. In the year 2002, he was also a part of the future leadership list of China. At that time, his competitors were people such as the current President of China, Xi Jinping and the current premier of the state council, Li Keqiang.

Touted as the man-made wonder, the world’s highest rail Bridge is being built across Chenab River in Rasai district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The bridge costing INR 512 crores is a part of Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Line (JUSBRL) project being undertaken by Ministry of Indian Railways.

Courtsey : indiatimes.in

Located in a high seismic zone and a terror-prone area, barely 50 kms from LOC, the project was scrapped in 2008 because 6 years after starting the project, the contractors couldn’t even lay the foundation of the bridge on the landslide slopes of a deep Himalayan gorge. However, 9 months after the railway board scrapped the plan to build the world’s highest bridge on Chenab an expert committee has cleared the way for its revival.

Dr. Nikola Tesla’s way of ‘flying’

Original article on Samirsinh Dattopadhye's Blog www.aniruddhafriend-samirsinh.com

Of all the dreams of man, none was and has been as fascinating as flying. It was in the quest for this dream that countless hours and days were spent imagining and dreaming up ways to take to the air. The dream was finally realized back in 1908 when the Wright brothers made the first successful flight in France. Was this truly the first powered and manned flight? Or did someone actually achieve this feat before?

Dr. Nikola Tesla was a dreamer who strived to achieve them. What he desired was the power to fly, that to with certainty and absolute safety. For him flying was to be not merely to go up in an aeroplane and take chances on weather conditions, air pockets, tornadoes, lightning and many other perils that the flights of today face, but to fly with the speed and certainty of a cannonball with power to overcome any of nature’s aerial forces

Cosmic Rays and Solar Energy – Dr. Nikola Tesla

We must have received messages stating the harmful nature of Cosmic Rays and that we need to switch off our mobiles at night, today we are going to see what exactly these cosmic rays are and the work Dr. Nikola Tesla did in this field.

Dr. Nikola Tesla wrote in New York American (newspaper) that he had “harnessed the rays of the sun and would compel them to operate machinery that would give light and heat”. Dr. Tesla said that he was so confident about this invention that possibility of its failure was almost 0%.

Dr. Nikola Tesla described a simple setup that constantly focused Sun’s rays into a gas boiler filled with water, which eventually produced high pressure steam that drove the turbine and the turbine would in turn generate electricity. The steam would then be cooled and returned to the boiler as water. Thus this would be a closed loop process generating and storing electricity in a continuous manner. Dr. Tesla even had made his own additions to this process. Dr. Tesla treated the water in the boiler with certain chemicals that he himself had developed. This resulted in the generation of steady steam pressure that would keep the entire experiment running smoothly and perpetually.

Dr. Nikola Tesla also designed and invented some very unique machines and concepts which were way ahead of time, e.g. generating electricity with help of temperature differences between earth’s deep layer or depths of sea to that of the earth’s surface, a boat propelled by temperature differences of sea water, structuring and subsequent modifications of tidal power plants, etc. Dr. Nikola Tesla said that these power plants would generate electricity, which could be stored and transmitted wirelessly through cables not only to the factories but also to the homes as well. The power stations could be located across the globe and would generate as well as store sufficient electricity to meet all the demands during all the times of the year, and with proper interconnectivity between them. With this the entire world would get unlimited supply of electrical energy for all the times.
