A rule was laid down by the Poland government which stated that the digging shouldn’t be more than 10 metres deep. Instead of digging this deep, it was recommended by the government to use the Radar technology to collect the information underneath the ground. This is why, the pair, Richter-Koper stated that it wasn’t possible to reach out to the train in the tunnel without digging deep inside the ground.
Apart from this, the pair claimed a 10% share from the total wealth from the government. How can we recover the train, what will be the limitations, this detailed study consumed a lot of time. So, Koper requested that only they should be allowed to pull the train out.

It is said that the train carries around 100 tonnes of gold. Furthermore, the other surveyors had claimed that there is a possibility that the train possessed 300 tonnes of gold. Thus, if the train gets retrieved and as per the demand of Richter-Koper, Poland government decides to give 10% share to them, then it is said that they would turn out to be richest in the world. But this isn’t easy anymore. As many others have begun to claim the gold which is yet to be found. This gold was collected when the Nazi soldiers had pushed the Jews under the poisonous gas in concentration camps. This is why even the Jewish international organisations began claiming its own share on it. The ‘World Jewish Congress’ has already claimed their share in it.

Later, Slowikowski’s dog was poisoned to death. His front door was broken. He faced attacks which seemed like those portrayed in Hollywood movies. These attacks still continue to happen. Even today, some people feel that Slowikowski shouldn’t search for the train or the tunnel. But even after so many years, no one knows who these people are.

It isn’t only Slowikowski who receives such threats. There were many people who tried their level best to hunt for this Nazi train in the past seven decades. They tried exploring the train at the Germany-Poland border too. Amongst them, those who reached nearWalbrzych were threatened similarly. They were attacked too. Some explorers felt that if their names get disclosed in front of media, their life could be at danger. Some people ceased the investigation due to the fear of losing their lives. This was because for the past seven decades, people who tried to investigate the lost train had lost their lives. An investigator had lost his life in this forest 4 months ago. But, Slowikowski was unaffected by these threats and deaths. He continued with his surveys. He has formed a ‘table-model’ of the information that he has gathered. He has created a model of the tunnel, the rail track and the siding in Walbrzych, exactly how it was in 1928. While working on this, Slowikowski hadn’t informed the media about his researched work or attacks. He did not find it important.

The Nazi soldiers were all set in a tunnel on the rail track in a forest in Walbrzych. Arrangements were done to accommodate the entire train in the tunnel. Hence, nobody would have had the faintest idea where the train actually was hidden. But, a family that lived at a stone’s throw from this spot witnessed the preparations. This family consisted of a father and his two children. Their home was right near the Nazis’ secret tunnel and so, they had to pay heavily for it. The Nazis slayed them and destroyed their house so that not a speck of hint was left behind. After this incident, the ‘Red army’ captured all the routes between Wroclaw and Walbrzych.

The Golden Train’s Tunnel – PART 1

There were still a few days remaining for the World War 2 to end. A train ran through the darkness of the night towards the city of Walbrzych in Poland. The train, unstoppable, ran ahead by leaving a trail of thick plume of smoke behind it. It did not halt at any station as it was expected to stop only at Walbrzych. The Nazi soldiers were ready to shoot those who tried stopping the train. The rifles and cannons carried by the soldiers were enough to retort to the enemies. All the preparations were completed for welcoming the golden train at the Walbrzych station.

A family that resided right next to the station was evacuated so that no soul could get a hint of it. This is why every person who was in the train and the ones who were waiting to receive were assured of the fact that no one gets to know anything, anytime.

Chilcot Report: Iraq Invasion was ‘unnecessary’! – Part 2

One of the few points of satisfaction for Tony Blair in the Chilcot Report was that it lays the blame on UK intelligence agency – MI6, for keeping secrets concealed from Blair. The MI6 spies had realised that one of its key sources was a fabricated even before the invasion. However there are evidences that senior members of the staff of Tony Blair had then warned about the intelligence report to be non-conclusive and flaky.

Chilcot concludes that the legal basis for the invasion was “far from satisfactory” however it does not give a verdict that the war was illegal. Chilcot blames that neither Tony Blair nor George Bush were prepared and had planned for the consequences and aftermath of Iraq invasion. Within a month of invasion, Saddam was toppled which lead to unleashing of sectarian conflict in Iraq that was predictable but no mitigation measures were planned.
The revelations pose a series of questions on the motives of the war. There were many theories prevailing that the invasion of Iraq was based on narrative set by the US of Saddam Hussein being a big threat and possessed Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs). The entire narrative was propagated through the media for general public to justify the invasion and the subsequent war. The Chilcot report provides some parallels to these theories. The invasion of Iraq fanned the flames of conflict across the Middle East. Chilcot report has also amplified claims that the war fuelled the rise of ISIS and detonated the conflict in Syria.
But now the question remains to be answered if Tony Blair would be tried for his lapses? Beyond this there are other questions too that emerge which will make one to think about the real motive behind Iraq invasion. The ultimate result of Iraq invasion being:
i)  Sectarian conflict in Iraq and unofficial split of the country into three parts
ii) Rise of ISIS and conflict in Syria, and
iii) Destabilization of Middle East and resulting migrant crisis of the European Union.

The much talked about ‘Chilcot Report’ published by Sir John Chilcot on 6th July 2016 found that invading Iraq was ‘unnecessary’ and was based on ‘flawed intelligence’ decided hastily before all the peaceful options were exhausted. Chilcot report is essentially a report of British public enquiry into their nation’s role in the invasion of Iraq. The enquiry was ordered in 2009 by the then British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

The report comprehensively covers invasion of Iraq from 2001 to 2009 and other topics such as circumstances leading to the conflict, strategy and planning, UK’s decision to support the US in its military endeavours, ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’ and planning post-Saddam Hussein era. The report was due to be released in 2014, however was delayed in negotiations with the US on keeping the contents of the report classified. The Foreign Office through judicial process blocked the extracts of conversations of the then President of the United States, George W. Bush and then British Prime Minister, Tony Blair that happened a few days before the Iraq invasion. The report is seen as posing a ‘significant danger’ to the bilateral relations between the UK and the US.

Shutdown In US – The Special, The Astonishing and The Peculiar – PART 2

Let us now go back 40 years. In the year 1974, some amendments were made to the “Congressional Budget Act” which was closely related to the financial proposal. It was because of these amendments that member of the cabinet got some powers to challenge the Financial proposals made by the President of the United States. These powers have been used extensively in these four decades. And the result of exercising such powers was the obvious “Shutdown” which brought the government to a standstill.

If one were to go back and check the history of the shutdown, one would notice that no sooner did these powers were exercised, than the shutdown seemed to have begun. Before the year 2013, over the last forty years, US had been on the verge of a shutdown like this a total of 17 times. These shutdowns include a shutdown of a day and also a shutdown of the highest number of days, albeit 21 days.
The reason for 2013 shutdown was the Healthcare Reform which was approved under the leadership of Barack Obama in the year 2010. This law is also known by the name “Obamacare” This law aimed at providing medical insurance to average American citizens. The opposition party of staunch Republicans had opposed this law right from the beginning.

Shutdown In US – The Special, The Astonishing and The Peculiar – PART 1

Although the US has seen many Shutdowns in the earlier years, the Shutdown in the year 2013 was a different one. Around 8 lakh government employees were retrenched from their jobs due to a tiff between the President and the members of the opposition party. Almost 13 lakh employees were asked to work without pay. US which otherwise would spend millions of dollars for the war, had no money to pay its employees. This was a shocking revelation for many citizens of this world.

People who know a little bit think that the shutdown was a result of a tiff between people due to their divergent political views. However, the root cause of this shutdown was nothing but the financial difficulties that US faced. This problem has been attached to this country right from the beginning like an umbilical cord. This problem is nothing but the national debt. The richest and powerful country of the world is deeply entrenched in debt and due to this shutdown the US, finds it hard to stay above water.

One of the world’s worst humanitarian crisis – Darfur, Sudan – PART 2

Original article on Samirsinh Dattopadhye's Blog www.aniruddhafriend-samirsinh.com

In 2004, the United States government evidently referred the killings of the Darfur civilians at the hands ofJanjaweed as ‘Genocide’. As said earlier the United Nations termed it as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. These repeated attacks have emptied hundreds of Darfur villages and left millions stranded in the camps where their life has come to a standstill. Even for the supply of their daily essentialities of food, water, clothing and healthcare they are dependent on the humanitarian aid. Several diseases have erupted due to lack of hygiene and sanitization in refugee camps. Starvation and malnutrition has added to the crisis further.

In mid-July 2007, United Nations Security Council deployed around 26,000 peacekeepers to provide protection against these acts of war crimes and for promoting peace negotiations. UNAMID – United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur is one of its kinds, the largest and costliest peacekeeping operations in history. But subsequently, the number of troops reduced in almost a year due to a meager supply of resources and ammunition to the deployed forces. The international community has also at times delayed or reneged on its promises of assistance for reasons best known to them.
